welcome to upper school
Redwood Day looks forward to expanding to a full K-12 school, and I'm delighted to be part of the process as Head of our Upper School. As we plan to add grades 9-12, we've taken a close look at what high school is and -- even better -- at what it could be, using RDS's unique developmental focus. All members of our Upper School community will be equally valued for their strengths and willingness to take risks. Each faculty member will have the charge of creating a vibrant and engaging academic community that will empower students to discover meaningful connections between themselves and the world in which they live. Redwood Day Upper School will prepare students for life and college, in that order.
Our academic program will be full of creativity, intellectual rigor, and meaningful service learning. Our advanced curriculum will ensure that students will meet or exceed college eligibility requirements. All students will emerge as thoughtful scholars with a rich understanding of society and their ability to make a positive impact.
Every member of the Upper School will have the opportunity to have his or her talents on display through polished works of writing, discoveries in math and science, theatrical productions, musical performances, art gallery showings, interscholastic competitions, and leadership positions. All students will be known and their strengths acknowledged.
Each student will have the distinct responsibility to establish traditions, create clubs, and contribute to the formation of student life in the Upper School. Student government, honor council, affinity groups, yearbook, and newspaper are examples of some possibilities that await the creativity and resourcefulness of Upper School students.
All members of the RDS Upper School will be called upon to share strengths, support themselves and others, communicate successfully within a diverse community, lead by example, have a sense of humor and, ultimately, develop a strong sense of self.
Check back often to learn more about our journey to K-12 expansion!
