Redwood Day is an independent, K-8 school of 350 students located in Oakland, California. Our school achieves academic excellence through curriculum innovation and differentiated instruction. From kindergarten through eighth grade, our students come to discover and understand their particular strengths and challenges as individual learners.
We are looking for a dynamic Kindergarten teacher who has experience planning an integrated curriculum, is committed to academic excellence and multiculturalism, and who understands child growth and development. Responsibilities will include teaching language arts, math, history and science. (Students also attend P.E., music, art, Spanish, library and computer classes away from the classroom.) Maximum class size is 22 students.
We are looking for a full-time teacher, to begin in August 2010, with a minimum of five years experience as a lead Kindergarten teacher, who understands the social needs of kindergartners, has strong communication and organizational skills and who is motivated to work with a strong existing team.

The Chief Financial Officer reports to Head of School and manages or has oversight responsibilities for the business activities of the School, including finances, payroll and personnel administration, and facilities management.
Financial
- Prepare timely and accurate monthly and annual Financial Statements
- Work with outside auditors to complete annual audit in timely fashion
- Work with Head and Board of Trustees to determine financial goals and produce annual
budget - Supervise business office personnel and assign duties
- Develop internal controls to ensure school assets are properly controlled
- Work with banks, lenders, etc.
- Cash management
- Investment management as directed by Board of Trustees
Personnel and H/R Management
- Ensure all managers and departments are in full compliance with all applicable Federal and State laws, regulations, etc., concerning personnel policies, benefits, etc.
- Oversee payroll and benefits
- Produce employment contracts
Property, Plant, & Equipment
- Supervise major projects
- Work with Head of School to produce Capital Budget
Administrative
- Review and administer school insurance coverage (property, liability, student accident, workers comp, etc), and supervise compliance with insurance requirements
- Work with other administrative departments to ensure that revenues are maximized, expenditures minimized, and budgetary goals are being met
- Serve on various Board of Trustee committees as requested (e.g., Finance, Buildings & Grounds) and attend monthly meetings
- Oversee production and mailing of student contracts
- Member of administrative leadership team
