Exciting New Additions to Our School Leadership Team

Dear Redwood Day Community,

I hope this message finds you well and that you are enjoying a wonderful summer. As we prepare for the upcoming school year, I write today to share exciting news about new additions to our school leadership team.

I am delighted to welcome Marsille Reed as our new Director of Enrollment Management. Marsille joins us after spending the past three years at The Waverly School in Pasadena as the Director of Enrollment Management. He is excited about returning to the Bay Area after previously serving in various roles at Drew School in San Francisco and Mark Day School in San Rafael. Marsille began his career at The Blake School in Minneapolis, where he worked as a Teaching Assistant, Director of Student Services for Breakthrough Minneapolis, and State Championship Varsity Football Coach. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from Loyola University New Orleans. Marsille brings a wealth of experience in enrollment strategies and student recruitment, and we are confident that his expertise will be invaluable in guiding Redwood Day through continued growth and development.

In addition, I am pleased to announce that Sanjev deSilva will join us as our new Director of Equity and Belonging. Sanjev brings 25 years of experience in education, youth development, and community service to the DEB role. His life’s mission is to empower young people to be leaders and to create progressive change in their communities. He most recently served as the Head of School for Northern Light School in Oakland. Prior to that role, Sanjev spent almost a decade at The Athenian School, where he was Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Social Justice and also served as a Humanities teacher, Dorm Head, basketball coach, and more. In 2012, Sanjev lived and worked in his familial homeland of Sri Lanka, doing post-civil war reconciliation work. Before that he worked at several Oakland public schools in various roles. Sanjev also brings three decades of work in the music industry as a recording/performing artist in the genres of Hip-Hop and Reggae. His educational work, activism, and music reflect the positive outlook and empowerment that he strives to bring to his communities. Sanjev's extensive background in promoting inclusive & restorative practices and fostering a sense of belonging for all students will greatly enhance our commitment to creating a supportive and equitable school environment.

Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Marsille and Sanjev. We are all excited about the positive impact they will have on our school community and look forward to the wonderful initiatives and programs they will lead.

I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the members of the hiring committee, trustees, parents/guardians, and student volunteers who participated in our hiring process for both roles. Your time, dedication, and invaluable contributions have been instrumental in helping us fill these two important positions. We are truly grateful for your support.

Thank you all for your continued support and partnership. We will communicate in August about the start of the school as we look forward to a fantastic year ahead.

Warm regards,

John Loeser, Head of School
